A Recreational Therapist directs and coordinates recreational activities for people with disabilities or illness to help them improve their emotional and physical well-being, improve motor skills and increase confidence. Leads activities involving movement, sports, games, and other activities for brain stimulation. Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

Job Description

Mount Prospect Academy seeks an Outdoor Paraprofessional to support at-risk and high-needs youth through outdoor and experiential learning. In this field-based role, you'll assist teachers and clinicians by leading small-group outdoor activities, reinforcing individualized behavior and treatment plans, and modeling positive social and life skills. You'll maintain safety, structure, and clear expectations during hikes, recreation, and campus programs, using trauma-informed and de-escalation strategies. As part of a collaborative, mission-driven team, you'll document student progress, join regular training and supervision, and help create meaningful growth opportunities for every student.
