Job Description

Summary The New York State Veterans Home at Montrose is a healthcare facility owned and operated by the New York State Department of Health for Veterans and their dependents. Serving the Veterans and their families of the Lower Hudson Valley since 2001. NYSVH Montrose is located on the VA Medical Center Grounds and has 252 beds. Responsibilities As a Recreation Therapist you would plan and conduct activities for resident groups, working individually or as a member of a treatment team or treatment program. Participate in MDS, Care Plans, completes initial resident assessments, continuous observation, document behavior changes, cognitive skills, collaborates with other disciplines and care givers of the overall care of the Veterans as well as assist other Recreation Therapists in all activity programs. The goal of each program is to bring about positive changes in a resident's mental, physical and/or social behavior. Position is on the evening shift (12pm to 08:30 pm with 08am to 04:30 pm on weekends) Off days - either Fri/Sat or Sun/ Monday. Qualifications Either 1. a bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation; Or 2. a bachelor's degree in Recreation, and one year of experience in planning and administering a therapeutic recreation program which involved developing and coordinating therapeutic recreational activities for geriatric patients/residents, individuals with developmental disabilities, individuals with psychiatric disabilities, individuals that are physically challenged, or individuals in treatment for chemical dependency; or 3. current credentials as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) issued by the National Council For Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). or 4. current licensure by NYS as a Creative Arts Therapist.
