Job Description

Rehabilitation Support Services, Inc. is seeking a full-time Recreation and Expressive Therapist for the CTI (Critical Time Intervention) Program for youth ages 11-17 with significant mental health concerns and trauma related experiences. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of brand-new program serving the Mid-Hudson Region. This team is tasked with bridging and linking appropriate services for safe transition to the community. This program serves up to 16 youth at a time (Once the residence is open - 8 youth would be part of the transitional residence). The behavioral support specialist would be familiar with all 16 cases and work interchangeably as part of the team. This team works with youth/families throughout the Mid-Hudson Development Region which spans over 6 counties: Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Westchester. This is a mobile position - meaning that while there may be an office day throughout the week/paperwork/collateral contacts, a significant amount of time is spent in a variety of communities at EDs, Hospitals, with families in their homes, and linking services.

•It should be noted that while a youth is from one of these 6 counties - there is potential for travel outside of this region if a youth is hospitalized or in an ED in another region or location. The program will have agency vehicles and those vehicles will be provided on a daily basis (or throughout the day) to the team member(s) who are traveling the furthest distance. There may be times when a personal car would need to be utilized and mileage would be submitted. Working with youth and families in the community setting is an incredible experience that provides many rewarding interactions and the opportunity to foster positive growth and change in the lives of others. Responsilbities include though are not limited to; Assisting youth to creatively navigate concerns through expressive art therapy, helping youth to access creative outlets to understand their emotions responses and reactions and channel concerning responses and reactions into more healthy coping mechanisms. This role will also be responsible for seeking out prosocial activities for youth, engaging and linking them to appropriate social/recreational activities (including completion of a leisure questionnaire to best understand youth strengths and enjoyment). The position will be 40 hours per week - including one weekend day. There are rotational on-call responsibilities including nights and weekends

Education:
Required:

Bachelor's degree

Preferred:

Masters Licensed Creative Arts Therapist Preferred (Masters Level). Bachelors Degree Required with recreational and art experience with children and youth (at least one year).

Other Requirements:

- Valid/Active NYS driver's license - Successful completion of a background check including Justice Center and New York State Office of Children and Families Statewide Central Register Database clearance
