Other duties may be assigned Plan, coordinate, and lead group and individual activities that support elders' physical, mental, spiritual, and recreational needs. Assess each elder's preferences, interests, abilities, and creativity to develop personalized activity care plans. Participate in care team conferences to ensure activity needs are addressed, met to the elder's satisfaction, and integrated with the MDS. Maintain accurate documentation, including participation charts and progress notes, to monitor elder satisfaction, support certification requirements, and aid in developing activity in-services for staff. Interview elders and families to better understand individual recreational needs. Attend department meetings to address resident care issues and stay informed on departmental updates. Assist the Director in training and onboarding new activity staff. Monitor and maintain activity equipment and supplies. Effectively manage time to balance elder interaction, activity planning, documentation, and project work.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This role has no direct supervisory responsibilities at this time. However, the organization reserves the right to assign supervisory duties as business or regulatory needs evolve.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

Attend workshops and other educational programs to stay current in new developments in gerontology and activity programming and to maintain professional certificates and licensure requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or five to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience working with older adults in long term care or health care setting. Experience in facilitating recreational programming desired.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret safety rules, operational and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and federal and state regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Certified (or currently eligible for certification) as an Activity Director Certified (ADC) or Activity Consultant. Must have completed the 36-hour course or 90-hour Activity Director course. Must have a valid driver's license with good driving record.
