A Recreational Therapist directs and coordinates recreational activities for people with disabilities or illness to help them improve their emotional and physical well-being, improve motor skills and increase confidence. Leads activities involving movement, sports, games, and other activities for brain stimulation. Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

The Recreation Therapist conducts therapeutic recreation programs, develops appropriate intervention strategies and plans, as assigned, to meet the recreational and psychosocial needs of residents. Contributes to on-going delivery of lifestyle engagement services for residents. Maintains accurate records of resident participation and documentation is compliant with state, federal, and department guidelines. Participates in assigned duties that will enhance the department's operations. Supports efforts of volunteers and community programs. Attends related in-services to maintain a well-trained workforce. Requirements for the
Recreation Therapist :
Bachelor of Science in Recreation Therapy. At least one year of experience (this can include an internship) in healthcare in a patient/resident care setting. National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Certification must be completed within one year of employment if not already certified. Maintains CPR certification per policy. To perform this job successfully, an individual should know Internet software, Spreadsheet software, Medical Records, and Word Processing software. APPLY today; make a difference every day !
