A Recreational Therapist directs and coordinates recreational activities for people with disabilities or illness to help them improve their emotional and physical well-being, improve motor skills and increase confidence. Leads activities involving movement, sports, games, and other activities for brain stimulation. Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

Flexible Part-Time About Us The BodySpeaks LLC provides community-based therapeutic services to youth and families through the YES Waiver Program. Our approach integrates recreation, movement, creativity, nature-based activities, and life skills development to support emotional wellness, resilience, social connection, and personal growth. We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Recreation Therapist to join our growing team and make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and adolescents experiencing emotional and behavioral health challenges. Position Summary The Recreation Therapist will provide individualized and group recreation-based interventions designed to improve emotional regulation, social skills, self-esteem, coping strategies, community integration, and overall quality of life. Services are delivered in community settings and tailored to each youth's treatment goals. Responsibilities Provide recreation therapy services to children and adolescents enrolled in the YES Waiver Program. Develop and implement therapeutic recreation activities based on individual treatment goals.
Facilitate community-based activities such as:
Nature walks and outdoor recreation Arts and creative expression Movement and wellness activities Social skills development Life skills training Community integration experiences Build positive therapeutic relationships with youth and families. Collaborate with treatment teams and caregivers. Complete required documentation, progress notes, and service records in a timely manner. Maintain compliance with state, Medicaid, and agency requirements. Qualifications Preferred Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) Bachelor's or Master's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Leisure Studies, or a related human services field. Required Experience working with children, adolescents, or individuals with behavioral health needs. Strong communication and documentation skills. Reliable transportation and valid driver's license. Ability to pass required background screenings. Ability to work independently in community settings. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is creative, engaging, and passionate about helping youth build confidence and healthy coping skills through recreation and meaningful life experiences. Experience with outdoor recreation, art-based interventions, movement-based activities, or youth mentoring is highly valued.
