A Recreational Therapist directs and coordinates recreational activities for people with disabilities or illness to help them improve their emotional and physical well-being, improve motor skills and increase confidence. Leads activities involving movement, sports, games, and other activities for brain stimulation. Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

Job Description
Recreation Specialist Job Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the designated site specific Manager or Supervisor and as a member of the Community Care inter-disciplinary team they are responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating age-appropriate, therapeutic recreational activities for all members including those with cognitive, developmental and physical disabilities. Provides direction and support to Recreation Assistants and other staff members as appropriate.Recreation Specialist Job Requirements
Education:
Bachelors in Recreational Therapy or other related field or Associates inOccupational TherapyExperience:
A minimum of 1 year of personal, Clinical/internship and/or employment experience providing care or services for a frail or elderly population required.1-2 years developing and implementing programming for individuals with intellectual disabilities, frail elders, or physically disabled.
