INFECTION CONTROL NURSE

The purpose of this position is to help prevent, identify, monitor, and control the spread of infectious agents, including bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens, within the facility. The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for supporting and maintaining the facility's Infection Prevention and Control Program in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, regulatory requirements, facility policies and procedures, and direction from facility leadership. The Infection Control Nurse oversees infection prevention and control activities throughout the facility and conducts infection prevention risk assessments, surveillance, monitoring, and follow-up activities to promote compliance with applicable regulatory and clinical standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist with the planning, development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and revision of the Infection Prevention and Control Program, including program goals, standards, policies, and procedures. Conduct infection prevention and control surveillance, assessments, audits, and monitoring activities throughout the facility. Coordinate with nursing, environmental services, dietary, rehabilitation, activities, administration, and other departments to improve infection prevention and control practices and outcomes. Identify, investigate, document, and follow up on suspected or confirmed infections and communicable diseases in accordance with facility policies and applicable regulatory requirements. Report communicable diseases and applicable laboratory results to local, state, and federal public health authorities as required. Participate in the development, review, and implementation of Infection Prevention and Control Standards of Care, policies, and procedures for assigned areas. Provide infection prevention and control education, in-services, and training to facility staff as needed. Monitor staff compliance with infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), isolation precautions, environmental cleaning, and other applicable infection control measures. Assist with outbreak prevention, investigation, management, and response activities. Provide consultation regarding facility construction, renovation, remodeling projects, and new patient-care equipment to help ensure infection prevention and control compliance. Maintain appropriate infection prevention and control documentation, records, reports, and surveillance data. Collaborate with facility leadership and the interdisciplinary team regarding infection prevention and control concerns and recommended corrective actions. Perform other related duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience in Infection Prevention and Control within a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) is required. Prior Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) experience is required. Current and valid California LVN or RN license is required. High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate is required. Knowledge of infection prevention and control principles, practices, surveillance, and applicable regulatory requirements. Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, healthcare professionals, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders. Ability to maintain accurate and confidential records and documentation. Working Conditions May encounter frequent interruptions and changing priorities. May interact with residents, family members, visitors, employees, healthcare professionals, and government or regulatory agencies. May be required to work beyond scheduled hours when necessary to meet facility needs. May be subject to call-back during emergency situations, including severe weather, evacuation, infectious disease outbreaks, disaster recovery, or other facility emergencies. May be exposed to odors, dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants. May be exposed to infectious waste, communicable diseases, and potentially infectious materials, including tuberculosis (TB), Hepatitis B, and

HIV/AIDS.

May be exposed to or required to handle hazardous chemicals and cleaning/disinfecting agents. Physical Requirements Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. Must be able to work throughout all nursing and resident-care areas of the facility. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds independently. Lifting or moving objects weighing up to 100 pounds may require assistance and/or use of appropriate equipment. Must be able to perform the physical requirements necessary to carry out the essential functions of the position safely.
