Summary:
The RN provides support and care to the patients and maintains professional standards of care, following the ANA Code of Ethics. Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager and the Director of Operations, the RN works in conjunction with the Medical Director to provide our patients with the best possible medical, nursing and psychosocial care.
Qualifications:
Solidly Pro-life Sincere desire to reach out to abortion-vulnerable and abortion-minded women. Maintains a consistent life-affirming philosophy and would never refer or advise a woman to have an abortion. Dependable, stable, and capable of following through on commitments. Continually holds a current nursing license in good standing under Florida law. Current BLS card. Must pass competencies in clinical areas through demonstration of skills by preceptor and competency quizzes. Must have excellent problem solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team. Bilingual helpful. Full agreement with our governing documents and policies, particularly as to our philosophy and principles expressed therein.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Mission Works effectively with Nurse Manager, other staff and volunteers to implement and communicate our mission, philosophy and principles as set forth in its governing documents. Cooperates with Nurse Manager to keep himself/herself current in legislative, regulatory, social and community developments relevant to our purposes. Assures that his/her personal activities are consistent with our philosophy and principles set forth in its governing documents. Nursing Care Provides nursing care, including without limitations, assessing patient needs and making nursing judgments that reflect safe nursing practices. Obtains patient medical/psychosocial history to include specific patient concerns/needs that may make carrying a baby to term difficult as well as evaluation of patient support system or lack of. Able to identify patients who may need emergency or immediate care based on nursing assessment/intake form. Able to identify abortion-minded and highly abortion-vulnerable patients. Performs/interprets urine pregnancy tests according to the policy and procedure in the manufacturer's guidelines. Documents in CLIA log. Counsels and assists patients in developing a plan of care in order to bring the baby to term based on assessment (physical, emotional and spiritual needs). Collects urine samples for STI testing and reports results to patient, doctor and Department of Health per our protocol. Maintains accurate records, care-plans and follow-through on physician's orders. Assures accurate implementation of physician's orders and advises physicians of patient's progress and changes in condition. Assists ultrasound technologists with exams. Provides education for patients and family to develop an understanding of their health condition: fetal development, pregnancy education, adoption education, abstinence, STD education, abortion risks/procedures education. Oversees patient follow-up per patient care-plan and standardizes procedures. Provides ongoing emotional/practical support as needed to high risk patients. Personal Development Continually pursues additional knowledge of current medical and psychological information appropriate to his/her duties and responsibilities hereunder. Attends medical conferences/in-service training that offer professional training and information pertinent to the Medical Clinic's services, as recommended by the Nurse Manager.
