Qualifications:

The qualifications required to hold this position are delineated in 511 IAC 4-1.5-6 Health Services. The Corporation Nurse must be a registered nurse, bachelor's degree required, who has a current license in the state of Indiana.

Primary Objective:

To coordinate and supervise health services throughout the corporation to ensure that the standards of school nursing, the Indiana Nurse Practice Act, scope of practice, and other relevant laws or statutes in regards to school law, are followed. Major areas of

Responsibility:

Participates in developing, implementing, and evaluating school health programs, goals, objectives, and procedures in cooperation with school personnel and community resources Participates in identifying and reporting environmental health and safety hazards (current and potential) for students and staff Coordinates health services for student athletes with the athletic trainer Initiates, maintains, and ensures that student health records are reviewed annually Maintains daily, monthly, and yearly information regarding health status with students and staff Submits annual reports to the state Supervises the Registered Nurses (R.N.) and Licensed Practical Nurses (L.P.N.) in assigned buildings Assists in developing, implementing and evaluating procedures and programs to assess the health and developmental status of the students Applies appropriate theories as a basis for decision making Assists with training and education of school staff in proper techniques for medical treatment Prepares RNs and LPNs to substitute in the school setting Coordinates staffing in the health clinics to ensure that the student's health needs are met. Ensures that all of the nurses hold a current, valid nursing license in the state of Indiana and are CPR certified Responsible for calling substitute nurses as needed and may need to cover other buildings Develops the Individualized Health Plan (IHP) with specific goals, objectives, and interventions based on student health needs for all schools that are served by an LPN and assists the RN with this task as needed. Develops and maintains a system for providing first aid and emergency care Responsible for ordering supplies for the health clinics within the nursing budget Collaborates with community agencies, health professionals, and school staff to identify the health needs, current and potential, of children and youth to facilitate school and community planning and intervention
