Health & Nutrition Coordinator Non-Exempt Position Overview:
  • Maintain updated health information on children assigned.
  • Maintain the health and safety regulations for the centers assigned. Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
  • Participate in the health screening and intake process for all children in/or entering the program.
  • Participate in planning, assessing and identifying the medical needs of the program. Integrate health education into the classrooms and other program activities.
  • Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team at center conferences and attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Submit all required reports and control sheets to the Health & Nutrition Coordinator and prepare individual health plans on children when necessary.
  • Give First Aid if a child is ill or injured when qualified staff is not available.
  • Advise parents of their child's progress regarding weight and height.
  • Participate in the preparations, implementations and recording of information from physical examinations, hearing, vision and dental screenings, and TB tests for children, staff members and volunteers.
  • Review children's medical and immunization records before entering into the program and help parents complete such records.
  • Transfer pertinent information to school health records before the child enters the public school system if requested.
  • Participate in a disability evaluation meeting with the public school personnel.
  • Input medical information when received from the parent into the computer system.

In addition to above, any reasonable task deemed necessary by the project Director to meet goals and objectives.

Qualifications & Skills:

An attitude which is consistent with the nursing profession and is consistent with principles of early childhood education and Head Start Performance Standards. A graduate of an approved school of nursing who is currently registered to practice nursing in Massachusetts. Ability to initiate and maintain good interpersonal relationships with children, parents and other staff members. Must have a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift/carry up to 40 lbs; ability to maintain full attention at all times when working with children and/or families; sufficient mobility and strength to repeatedly sit, stand, carry infants/toddlers, balance, stoop, walk, stretch, bend, reach, kneel, and have full range of body motion; ability to react and move quickly; sufficient vision and hearing to perform job duties; ability to drive/operate a motor vehicle; sufficient manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to perform job duties. Must have a physical every two years. A physician's certificate is required. New employees must have proof of TB test within the prior year. Thereafter, employees must have an assessment of TB every year. Applicant must undergo the following background checks:

Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check

Department of Children and Families (DCF) check

Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) check

Fingerprint-based national and state criminal history background checks

Schedule:

 Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm

 35 Hours per week Minimum 41 weeks per year
