Position Overview:
St. Bernadette School is seeking a caring, professional, and dependable Part-Time School Nurse to provide health services and support the well-being of our students and staff. The School Nurse will play an important role in maintaining a safe, healthy, and nurturing school environment while working collaboratively with school administration, faculty, staff, students, families, and healthcare providers.The ideal candidate will be a compassionate and organized Registered Nurse who enjoys working with children and is committed to supporting the whole child in a Catholic school community.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide professional nursing care to students and staff as needed during the school day.
- Assess illnesses and injuries and determine appropriate care, intervention, or referral.
- Administer medications in accordance with physician orders, school policies, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records and documentation.
- Develop and maintain individualized health plans and emergency action plans for students with significant medical needs.
- Communicate appropriately with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns, illnesses, injuries, medications, and medical needs.
- Coordinate with students physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals when necessary.
- Respond appropriately and calmly to medical emergencies and coordinate emergency medical services when required.
- Monitor and manage communicable illnesses and follow appropriate infection-control procedures.
- Assist with required student health screenings and health assessments.
- Maintain appropriate supplies and equipment in the school health office.
- Provide health education and guidance to students, faculty, and staff as appropriate.
- Promote healthy habits, wellness, and a safe school environment.
- Work collaboratively with the Principal, teachers, support staff, and families to meet individual student health needs.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student medical information in accordance with applicable laws and school policies.
- Perform other nursing and health-related duties as assigned by the Principal.
Required Qualifications:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and in good standing.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current certification in First Aid is preferred.
- Pediatric, school nursing, community health, or related nursing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of basic pediatric health, common childhood illnesses, medication administration, and emergency care.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and remain calm during emergencies.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times.
- Ability to establish positive and trusting relationships with students, families, and staff.
- Commitment to creating a safe, caring, and supportive environment for children.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working as a school nurse or in a pediatric healthcare setting.
- Experience managing student health plans, allergies, asthma, diabetes, seizures, and other chronic medical conditions.
- Familiarity with Massachusetts school health regulations and requirements.
- Experience working collaboratively with families, physicians, and school personnel.
- Experience in a Catholic school or faith-based educational environment is a plus.
