Job Description

Mercy seeks a dedicated Registered Nurse for our Operating Room in Joplin. In this on-site role, you'll deliver comprehensive perioperative care, from patient assessment through recovery, ensuring safety, comfort, and clear communication. You will prepare and maintain the OR environment, manage instruments and equipment, and uphold strict aseptic and infection-control standards. Working closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams, you'll use evidence-based practices and EHR systems while contributing to continuous quality and process improvement. Responsibilities Provide pre-, intra-, and postoperative nursing care for surgical patients Prepare OR rooms, instruments, and equipment per procedure requirements Maintain strict aseptic technique and infection control standards Monitor patient status and document care using EHR systems Administer medications and manage IV lines as ordered Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and OR staff to ensure safe procedures Educate patients and families on procedures and postoperative care Follow all hospital policies, safety protocols, and regulatory standards Participate in quality improvement and clinical best-practice initiatives Support and mentor new staff and contribute to a collaborative team culture Required Skills Patient assessment Perioperative nursing OR instrumentation and equipment Aseptic technique Intraoperative monitoring Electronic Health Records (EHR) Medication administration IV therapy Patient and family education Infection control
