A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.

Job Description

Functions of Position:
 Develops and maintains departmental policies and procedures.  Conducts the pre-employment medical examination of prospective new employees that includes; health history, physical exam, and required tests and x-rays.  Conducts the annual required tests for all employees. This includes the required N 95 mask fit testing of those employees required to be tested annually.  Report and care for the on-duty work-related injuries and needle puncture, scalpel, or similar wounds.  Meets with employees returning to work after a medical leave or from a lost time accident. Examines the paperwork for proper release in returning to work.  May provide first aid or act as a liaison with the Emergency Department in the provision of first aid. Is to be available for consultation with employees on basic health issues.  Serves as a resource person to all departments on issues associated with Employee Health.  Works in consultation with Human Resources on Workers Compensation issues.  Monitors Hospital wide compliance with Employee Health policies.  May provide in-service programs when needed.  Initiates and completes all required documentation and reports for the Employee Health Department.  Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.  Attends meetings as required.  Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications:
 Graduate of accredited school of Nursing, preferably with BSN degree.  Current Registered Nurse's license State of Missouri.  Clinical experience as a staff nurse, public health nurse or the equivalent. Management experience preferred.
Working Conditions:
 Subject to varying and unpredictable situations; may be required to handle emergency or crisis situations; occasionally subjected to irregular hours.
