Job Summary:

Tri-County Health Department is seeking a motivated and community-minded Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our public health team. This position is ideal for a nurse who enjoys variety, values prevention and education, and wants to make a meaningful impact beyond traditional bedside care. The Public Health Nurse provides clinical and preventive health services while also participating in communicable disease surveillance and response, immunization programs, health education, community outreach, emergency preparedness, quality improvement, accreditation activities, and other public health initiatives. Public health is constantly evolving, and this position requires someone who is willing to learn, problem-solve, collaborate, and step into a variety of roles to support the health of the communities we serve. Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Provide nursing services within the nurse's scope of practice, including assessment, screening, health education, medication administration, immunizations, and other preventive health services. Administer vaccines and medications according to current guidelines, standing orders, policies, and provider orders. Maintain knowledge of current immunization schedules, vaccine storage and handling requirements, and applicable state and federal vaccine programs. Perform or assist with CLIA-waived laboratory testing, specimen collection, and other clinical procedures. Participate in communicable disease surveillance, investigation, reporting, follow-up, education, and outbreak response in coordination with local and state public health partners. Monitor and respond to reportable diseases and other emerging public health concerns. Provide patient and community education regarding disease prevention, immunizations, maternal and child health, reproductive health, chronic disease prevention, healthy lifestyles, and other public health topics. Participate in community outreach activities, health fairs, school clinics, off-site vaccination clinics, and other events throughout the service area. Identify opportunities to improve community health and assist in developing or implementing programs to address identified needs. Collaborate with healthcare providers, schools, childcare facilities, emergency responders, community organizations, state agencies, and other community partners. Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation in electronic health records, immunization registries, disease surveillance systems, and other required databases. Assist with public health accreditation activities , including documentation, evidence collection, performance management, quality improvement, policy review, and implementation of public health standards. Participate in community health assessment and community health improvement activities. Assist with emergency preparedness planning, exercises, trainings, and public health emergency response as needed. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, department policies, applicable laws, and program requirements. Maintain required training, competencies, certifications, and professional licensure. Assist other department programs and staff as needed. Public health responsibilities may change based on community needs, disease activity, funding requirements, emergencies, and emerging health concerns. Demonstrate initiative by identifying needed tasks, following projects through to completion, and seeking solutions rather than waiting for direction. Perform other duties consistent with the mission and responsibilities of the Health Department. Qualifications Current, unrestricted Missouri RN or LPN license in good standing. Public health, community health, primary care, immunization, or similar nursing experience preferred but not required. Knowledge of or willingness to learn communicable disease investigation, immunization practices, public health programs, and preventive health services. Comfortable learning and using electronic health records, immunization registries, disease surveillance systems, and other computer-based programs. Ability to perform clinical and laboratory procedures within the individual's scope of practice and training. Strong communication, organization, documentation, and time-management skills. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a small, collaborative team. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and provide education in an understandable, respectful manner. Must be adaptable and willing to respond to changing priorities and community health needs. Must demonstrate professionalism, dependability, initiative, sound judgment, and a genuine interest in serving the community. Ability to travel within the Health Department's service area for clinics, outreach activities, meetings, and public health response. Ability to occasionally lift and move supplies or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be self-motivated and able to remain productive without continuous supervision, appropriately managing personal distractions while maintaining focus on departmental responsibilities.
