School Days, As Needed Position Summary The Hoboken Public School District is seeking qualified and dependable Substitute School Nurses to provide school health services on an as-needed basis throughout the district. Substitute School Nurses are responsible for maintaining a safe and effective school health office and providing appropriate nursing care to students and staff during the absence of the regularly assigned school nurse. Assignments may be available at the preschool, elementary, middle, and high school levels. Qualifications Valid New Jersey Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License required. Valid New Jersey School Nurse Certificate preferred. Current CPR/AED certification. Knowledge of nursing practices, first aid, emergency procedures, medication administration, and student health needs. Ability to respond appropriately and efficiently to medical emergencies. Ability to maintain accurate and confidential student health records. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Experience working with school-aged children preferred. Prior school nursing, pediatric, emergency, or community health experience preferred. Successful criminal history background clearance and other employment requirements established by the State of New Jersey and Hoboken Board of Education. Retired school nurses and other qualified retired nursing professionals are encouraged to apply. Essential Responsibilities The Substitute School Nurse may be responsible for: Providing emergency care and first aid to students and staff in accordance with district policies and established procedures. Assessing student illness or injury and determining appropriate nursing interventions, including communication with parents/guardians and emergency medical services when necessary. Administering prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, applicable law, and Board policy. Providing required health care and related services for students with individual health needs and disabilities. Reviewing and following student Individualized Health Plans, emergency action plans, medication orders, and other applicable health documentation. Maintaining accurate and confidential documentation of student visits, medications, treatments, injuries, illnesses, and other health-related services. Supporting the prevention and control of communicable diseases in accordance with state and local health requirements and district procedures. Communicating appropriately with administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, and other school personnel regarding student health and safety needs. Maintaining the organization, safety, and readiness of the school health office, including medical supplies and emergency equipment. Following all district emergency, crisis management, student safety, confidentiality, and reporting procedures. Performing other school health-related duties as assigned. Compensation Substitute School Nurse Rate:
