JOB GOAL
The goal of the School Nurse is to provide professional health services and serve as a source of health information for the school community. Health is defined as physical, emotional and mental health.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Pupil Health Assists with health examinations for new entrants and grades: Pre-K, K, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and athletic certification. Maintains health records and provides documentation of services. Maintains communication with parents, teachers and staff regarding pupil's health. Maintains close working relationship with school physician Contacts outside agencies and makes referrals when appropriat Contacts and works with support personnel within the school as needed regarding student health. Immunization Conducts annual immunization survey of student records, as required by the State Health Department. Reviews immunization records of all incoming students and makes appropriate referrals. Health Screening Maintains records and screens Vision/Hearing/Spinal Columns as required by New York State Law. Pupil Personnel Services Serves as a member of the PPS team. Medication Stores and administers medication in accordance with New York State Law. Care of Illness or Injury= Is available at all times to administer first aid. Services pupil needs (illness, injury, counseling), handicapping conditions and chronically ill. Health Education Serves as a resource for current health information obtained from outside health agencies. Attendance Processes daily attendance; Processes tardy students; Processes early dismissal. Environmental Health Conducts periodic inspection of facility and reports to appropriate staff. Clerical Processes school Incident and Accident Insurance Claim Forms and/or Workman's Compensation Forms. Other Provides for duties subject to the direction of the Superintendent of School, Building Principal. Serves on Building committees appropriate to assist student achievement. Carries out any other assigned duties and/or responsibilities, which may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Education.
