Role:

The RN Nights Post Surgical position is a critical role focused on providing comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from surgical procedures during overnight shifts. The primary goal is to ensure patient safety, comfort, and optimal recovery by closely monitoring vital signs, managing pain, and promptly identifying any post-operative complications. This role requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to implement individualized care plans and facilitate smooth transitions from surgery to recovery. The nurse will also provide education and emotional support to patients and their families during the vulnerable post-surgical period. Ultimately, this position plays a vital role in promoting positive patient outcomes and maintaining high standards of clinical care throughout the night.

Minimum Qualifications:

Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States. Completion of an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Experience in post-surgical or acute care nursing settings. Ability to work overnight shifts and manage the physical demands of nursing care.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced certifications such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) certification. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation. Strong background in pain management and patient education. Previous experience working in a surgical or critical care unit during night shifts.

Responsibilities:

Monitor and assess post-surgical patients' vital signs, wound sites, and overall condition to detect any signs of complications or deterioration. Administer medications, including pain management and other prescribed treatments, while adhering to safety protocols and documentation standards. Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to update care plans and communicate patient status effectively. Provide patient education regarding post-operative care, mobility, medication adherence, and signs of potential complications. Respond promptly to patient needs and emergencies during the night shift, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for recovery.

Skills:

The RN will utilize clinical assessment skills daily to monitor patient recovery and identify any deviations from expected post-surgical progress. Effective communication skills are essential for coordinating with healthcare team members and providing clear instructions and reassurance to patients and families. Time management and prioritization skills are critical to handle multiple patients and urgent situations during the night shift efficiently. Proficiency with electronic health records ensures accurate documentation and seamless information sharing. Additionally, strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities enable the nurse to respond swiftly to emergencies and adapt care plans as needed.
