Hourly, Seasonal Position Summary Nursery Workers perform a variety of tasks related to the production, maintenance, harvesting, preparation, and distribution of nursery plants. Work is performed in open growing fields and environmentally controlled structures. Duties may include planting, pruning, irrigating, fertilizing, weeding, grafting, collecting seeds and cuttings, preparing plants for transplanting, grading, labeling, packing, and loading plants for shipment. Workers may use hand tools and operate equipment and machinery commonly used in a wholesale nursery, including tractors, forklifts, skid steers, front-end loaders, carts, trailers, and other production equipment. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with irrigation systems, inventory, quality control, order fulfillment, and general maintenance of nursery equipment and production areas.
Compensation and Benefits Starting pay:
$17.25 per hour Overtime pay: 1.5 times the regular rate after 40 hours worked per week Bi-weekly pay through direct deposit or payroll card Required tools, supplies, and personal protective equipment are provided by the employer at no cost Employees accrue Oregon sick time in accordance with applicable law Work Schedule Regular schedule is generally Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM , with a mandatory 30-minute unpaid lunch and scheduled breaks An alternative regular shift of 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM may also be used During peak season, employees may work up to approximately 54 hours per week , including Saturdays Daily and weekly schedules may vary based on weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and market demand Additional hours may be offered depending on operational needs Required Qualifications Minimum 2 months of experience working in a wholesale nursery , performing manual and machine-related nursery production and harvesting tasks Ability to understand verbal and/or written work instructions Ability to recognize nursery plant species and varieties Ability to determine grades and quantities of trees, shrubs, and perennials for order fulfillment Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs.
