3007327027-2 Apply for this job now Job Description HCA Healthcare is seeking a Mental Health Intake Nurse to support behavioral health patients at our facilities. In this role, you will perform initial psychiatric and medical intake assessments, triage acuity, and coordinate safe admissions, transfers, or referrals. You will obtain health histories, complete suicide and risk screenings, verify insurance information, and collaborate with psychiatrists, providers, and families to determine appropriate level of care. The nurse documents thoroughly, ensures regulatory and EMTALA compliance, and provides crisis interventions with empathy. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive mental health and medical intake assessments for new patients Conduct suicide, violence, and risk screenings to determine level of care and urgency Triage and coordinate patient placement, admissions, transfers, or referrals to appropriate programs Collaborate with psychiatrists, physicians, therapists, and care teams on treatment decisions Communicate with patients and families, explaining intake, treatment options, and next steps Verify insurance information and required authorizations related to behavioral health services Ensure complete, accurate, and timely documentation in electronic health records Maintain compliance with EMTALA, HIPAA, and facility behavioral health policies Provide de-escalation and crisis intervention using therapeutic communication techniques Participate in quality, safety, and process-improvement initiatives in behavioral health intake Required Skills Psychiatric intake assessment Suicide and risk screening Nursing triage Behavioral health documentation (EHR) Crisis intervention and de-escalation Knowledge of EMTALA and HIPAACare coordination and discharge planning Mental status examination Insurance and authorization processes Interdisciplinary team collaboration
