Job Description
Description This position is in the Emergency Department. This is a very non-stop role and fast paced however there is down time to enter registrations and verifications Candidates in this role will cross-train in 3 different areas of the
Emergency Department:
1. Front desk- Checks in patients coming through the front door of the ER
- Collects ID's & insurance cards
- Sometimes will need to come from behind the desk to help a patient
- Work with security and hospital police to ensure safety and compliance of patients
- Welcomes family and friends and note in system if they are there 2. Ambulance Bay
- Check in patients coming in on the ambulance / IU Health Life Line
- Listens to incoming patient radio updates (incoming stroke, incoming GSW, etc) 3. Floor
- Listen to overhead pager system for incoming registrations needed, Ex
- in route to room 3 in 5 minutes
- Must be ready to do anything in their power to identify patient (grab wallet from patient's pocket, track down EMT to see if they have identifying documents, etc)
REQUIRED COMPUTER WORK
- Registration board
- board to see all patients checked in, who needs registered, who needs insurance verification, what they are in for, if they are discharged, etc Skills customer service, data entry Top Skills Details customer service
Additional Skills & Qualifications Must Haves:
- 2+ years of customer service
- Adaptable (for example; open to working different registration departments which they could be asked to do in some situations)
- Attention to detail with data entry
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with patients, peers and superiors on a daily basis
- Ability to think quickly and react professionally
