Job Summary:
The Referral Specialist is responsible for coordinating and processing patient referrals to specialists and other healthcare providers. The Referrals Specialist works closely with physicians, patients, insurance companies, and other medical offices to ensure timely and efficient care coordination.Key Responsibilities:
- Receive and review referral requests from providers
- Submit referrals to appropriate specialists or facilities based on insurance coverage and provider networks
- Obtain prior authorizations from insurance companies when required
- Notify patients of referral details
- Serve as a liaison between the medical office, patients, and specialists
- Monitor the status of outstanding referrals
- Follow up with specialists and patients to confirm appointments and outcomes
- Resolve any issues or delays related to referral processing
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all referrals and authorizations.
- Cross train for front desk coverage
- Ensure confidentiality and security of patient information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines
