At Superior Hospice, we're looking for a Registered Nurse who wants greater ownership of their work while providing hospice care throughout the Greater Southeast Twin Cities Metro Area . You'll work independently in the field, manage your visits, make real-time clinical assessments, and become a trusted resource for patients and families. At the same time, you'll have physicians, clinical leadership, and an interdisciplinary hospice team behind you whenever you need additional support. Instead of asking how much more treatment can be done, you're evaluating what will improve this patient's comfort and quality of life right now . You'll assess pain, breathing, anxiety, agitation, wounds, medications, functional changes, and disease progression. You'll determine what can be addressed during the visit, what requires collaboration with a provider, and what the patient and family need to understand before you leave. You're trusted to think like an experienced nurse , not simply complete a list of tasks. There isn't always another nurse ten feet away. You walk through the door, assess what's happening, and use your experience to determine what needs attention. Maybe the patient's pain has increased. Maybe their breathing has changed. Maybe they're becoming increasingly confused or agitated. Maybe a family member has questions about medications or is worried about what they're seeing. You bring clinical clarity into the situation. You'll assess the patient, provide appropriate interventions, educate the family, communicate with the provider or hospice team when needed, and establish a plan for what happens next. That level of responsibility isn't for every nurse. For nurses who enjoy independence, problem-solving, and being trusted to use their judgment , it can be incredibly rewarding. What You'll Do Provide skilled hospice nursing visits throughout the Greater Southeast Twin Cities Metro Area Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and ongoing patient evaluations Manage pain, dyspnea, nausea, anxiety, agitation, wounds, medications, and other symptoms Recognize changes in condition and determine appropriate interventions Evaluate the effectiveness of comfort-focused medications and treatments Educate patients and caregivers about medications, disease progression, comfort measures, and what to expect Coordinate medication and treatment changes with physicians and providers Help anticipate patient needs before symptoms escalate Support patients in remaining safely and comfortably in their preferred environment whenever possible Collaborate with hospice aides, social workers, chaplains, physicians, facility staff, pharmacies, and other members of the interdisciplinary team Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation Participate in an on-call and weekend rotation Bring the Nursing Skills You've Already Built You don't need to have spent your entire career in hospice to become an excellent Hospice Visit Nurse. RNs from Home Health, Oncology, Palliative Care, ICU, Critical Care, Emergency Nursing, Med/Surg, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Long-Term Care, and Community Nursing can bring highly transferable experience to this role. Home Health nurses already understand field independence. ICU and ER nurses bring exceptional assessment skills. Oncology nurses understand symptom management and difficult conversations. Senior living nurses understand geriatrics, chronic illness, dementia, and family dynamics. Med/Surg nurses bring broad clinical knowledge and the ability to manage complex patients.
