Job Description

Medical Office Specialist Greiner Orthopedics is a busy private orthopedic practice seeking a friendly, dependable, and detail-oriented Medical Office Specialist. This patient-facing position focuses on front desk-work, greeting patients, providing a friendly and efficient check-in and check-out experience, answering phones, scheduling appointments, and supporting the daily operations of the office. Our team works closely together. Each person has assigned responsibilities, and everyone helps keep patients, calls, and office tasks moving throughout the day. We're looking for someone who can handle several tasks at once, work efficiently without losing attention to detail, adjust when priorities change, and follow tasks through to completion. Responsibilities Greet patients and provide a friendly, efficient check-in and check-out experience. Answer incoming calls, assist patients, take accurate messages, and route clinical questions to the appropriate staff. Schedule new and established patient appointments and coordinate follow-up visits. Confirm and update patient demographics, insurance information, and required forms in the electronic medical record. Collect and record copays and patient payments, and assist patients with basic account questions. Monitor electronic communications and the fax inbox, route incoming documents and messages, and send completed paperwork to the appropriate offices or facilities. Assist with patient referrals, records requests, scanning, and other office paperwork as assigned. Communicate with patients, providers, physician offices, and coworkers to coordinate care and resolve routine questions. Provide coverage in other areas of the office when needed. Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements. Greet patients and manage check-in and check-out. Verify insurance eligibility and assist with referral or authorization information as needed. Collect and record copays and patient payments, and assist patients with basic billing and account questions. Monitor the fax inbox, route incoming documents, and send orders and completed paperwork to the appropriate offices or facilities. Assist with patient referrals, records requests, scanning, and maintaining accurate electronic charts. Communicate with patients, providers, physician offices, and coworkers to help coordinate care. Provide coverage in other areas of the office when needed. Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements. Qualifications Previous medical office experience required. Friendly, professional communication with patients by phone and in person. Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage several tasks throughout the day. Comfortable using computers, electronic medical records, insurance websites, fax systems, and multiline phones. Ability to work as part of a team and follow assigned tasks through to completion. Working knowledge of medical terminology and patient confidentiality requirements. High school diploma or equivalent. Orthopedic experience and familiarity with eClinicalWorks (eCW) are preferred, but not required. Depending on the candidate's experience and the needs of the practice, this position may include additional responsibilities in patient coordination and office support, such as referrals, medical records, insurance eligibility and benefits, and prior authorizations. The primary duties and any specialized responsibilities will be discussed during the interview.
Schedule:
Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 a.m. 1:00 p.m. No weekends or holidays.
