Job Description

Mercy is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to deliver high quality cardiopulmonary care within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. You will assess, plan, and administer respiratory therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol treatments, and ventilator management for diverse patient populations. Responsibilities include performing diagnostics (ABGs, spirometry), monitoring patient responses, and collaborating with physicians and nurses to optimize care plans. You will educate patients and families, uphold infection control and safety standards, and document accurately in the EMR. Responsibilities Assess patients' respiratory status and develop care plans Administer oxygen, aerosol therapies, and bronchodilators per protocol Set up, manage, and troubleshoot invasive and non invasive ventilators Perform diagnostic tests such as ABGs, pulse oximetry, and spirometry Monitor and document patient responses and adjust therapy as needed Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams on care plans Provide patient and family education on respiratory care and equipment use Maintain equipment, adhere to infection control, and ensure safety compliance Document care accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) Participate in quality improvement and continuing education activities Required Skills Respiratory assessment and care planning Ventilator setup and management (invasive and non invasive) Administration of oxygen and aerosolized medications Arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation Pulmonary function and bedside spirometry testing Airway management and suctioning Use of respiratory equipment (nebulizers, Bi PAP/CPAP, humidification) Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation Infection control and patient safety practices Interdisciplinary clinical collaboration and communication
