Job Description:
Notifies manager of supply shortages, equipment needs, and failures, and ensures appropriate work orders or helpdesk tickets are placed. Other duties as assigned. Responds to emergency situations, such as disasters and hurricanes, by reporting to the department and staying until the crisis is over or the position is covered by incoming personnel. Assists with educational and screening activities, including ABI, BP, and EKG testing. Enters risk reports as appropriate. Attends required education and department meetings as scheduled. Participates in debriefing and root cause analysis (RCA) events as requested. Notifies manager or director of any situation requiring case study or further educational needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Cardiopulmonary diagnostic and/or interventional RN may perform stress testing upon completion of applicable orientation. [Required]
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend the English language extensively. [Required]
  • Secondary language useful but not necessary. [Required]
  • Must have demonstrated clinical skills as outlined above. [Required]
  • Must document clinical proficiency by successfully completing the competency program for procedures performed. [Required]
  • Competency may be evaluated by written test and didactic observation. [Required]
  • Good judgment is required in the application of policies, procedures, and protocols. [Required]
  • Prioritization of multiple often-conflicting patient care responsibilities [Required]
  • Alerts supervisor to intervene and provide service recovery efforts as needed. [Required]
  • Must have strong assessment skills and ability to recognize adverse reaction, contraindication and critical patient response to various medications and procedures. [Required]
  • Recognizes applicable medical necessity criteria and contraindications for cardiopulmonary procedures. [Required]
  • Decisions of major consequence may be deferred to Lead Therapist or Cardiopulmonary Manager / Director. [Required]
  • May precept staff training in cardiac diagnostic procedures. [Required]
  • May assist with training new personnel. [Required]
  • May provide educational sessions for other departments, staff and community. [Required]
  • Must be able to communicate i.e. talk, hear, write effectively. [Required]
  • Able to handle high level of stress satisfactorily and be congenial with other employees and customers at all times.

    A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.
