A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Job Description
Palmetto Subacute Care Center seeks a Weekend Respiratory Therapist to provide compassionate respiratory care to post-acute, subacute, and long-term residents. In this on-site role, you will perform assessments, administer treatments, manage oxygen and ventilatory support, and monitor resident response. You'll collaborate closely with nursing and rehab teams, support care planning, and educate residents and families. Responsibilities Provide respiratory assessments and develop care plans for subacute and long-term residents Administer respiratory treatments, therapies, and medications per provider orders Monitor patient status, document care, and adjust treatments based on response Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain respiratory equipment safely Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and therapists on interdisciplinary care Educate residents and families on respiratory conditions and home care needs Follow infection control, safety, and regulatory standards at all times Participate in weekend care planning, rounds, and handoff communication Required Skills Respiratory assessment Ventilator management Oxygen therapy Nebulizer and inhaler therapy Airway management Arterial blood gas interpretation Electronic medical record documentation Infection control practices Patient and family education Interdisciplinary collaboration
