Send job Job Details Company Job Details The Marcinkiewcz lab is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to join a highly collaborative team at the University of Florida. Our research focuses on unraveling neural circuit mechanisms underlying alcohol use and neurodegenerative disease using multi-level approaches, including fiber photometry, patch-clamp electrophysiology, optogenetics/chemogenetics, spatial transcriptomics, and 3D imaging. Our previous work has uncovered novel mechanisms driving aversive states in protracted alcohol withdrawal, and we are now at the stage of developing therapeutic interventions. We are also actively investigating the role of brainstem monoaminergic circuits in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease and the intersection between AD and AUD. Highly enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals with a strong background in systems neuroscience, behavioral genetics, molecular mechanisms of disease and/or neuropharmacology are encouraged to apply. Current and previous trainees in the lab have been successful in obtaining extramural funding (e.g. F32 and K99) and publishing high-impact work in the field. Postdoctoral Scholars in the lab may be involved in leading projects in 3 main areas: 1) Central actions of serotonin and neuropeptides in the neurobiology of alcohol and substance use disorders 2) Neural circuits at the intersection of stress, alcohol use, and chronic pain 3) The role of biogenic amines and environmental risk factors in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease We are also interested in the translational potential of our findings and have several ongoing human validation studies. Funding is available for these positions, but we also encourage postdoctoral scholars to apply for extramural funding to build their CVs and grant-writing skills. New trainees will receive mentoring in grantsmanship, networking at scientific meetings, academic writing and presentation skills for future job talks and interviews.
