What they do
A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Description
Location:
Pembroke Pines, Florida Patients depend on our team for the best in evidence-based care and innovative therapies, such as inhaled nitric oxide, high-frequency oscillation, and invasive and non-invasive ventilator support modalities. Opportunities exist for motivated Registered Respiratory Therapists (and Certified Respiratory Therapy Technicians) with the skills to provide a high level of quality service in a variety of settings including the ED, Trauma and Critical Care.
Summary:
Serves as resource and mentor for less experienced therapists providing care for patients with cardiopulmonary disorders.
- 3•12 hour shifts with rotating weekends; ICU experience preferred •
Responsibilities:
Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance. Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment.
Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
Educates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources. Provides staff training and education.
Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
Maintains requirements of Clinical Ladder.

Complexity of Work:
Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Required Work Experience:
Two (2) years of clinical experience with one (1) year in an area of specialty.

Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
Additional Credential Info:
Can be licensed as RT or TT. National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) credential is preferred.
