Job Description

Wellstar Health System is seeking a Lead Registered Respiratory Therapist to guide a high-performing respiratory care team within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this leadership role, you will coordinate daily workflow, provide advanced cardiopulmonary assessment and treatment, and serve as a clinical resource for complex cases. Responsibilities include overseeing ventilator management, emergency response, and evidence-based respiratory protocols while ensuring regulatory compliance and accurate documentation. You will mentor staff, support orientation and education, collaborate with physicians and nursing, and drive quality-improvement initiatives. Responsibilities Lead and coordinate daily activities of the respiratory therapy team across assigned units Perform advanced cardiopulmonary assessments and deliver evidence-based respiratory treatments Oversee invasive and non-invasive ventilator management for adult and/or pediatric patients Respond to emergencies including codes, rapid responses, and respiratory distress events Ensure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record and regulatory compliance Collaborate with physicians, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams on care plans and protocols Mentor, coach, and support onboarding of new therapists and students Assist with staff scheduling, workload distribution, and resource utilization Monitor clinical quality indicators and participate in performance-improvement projects Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, therapies, and equipment use Required Skills Advanced ventilator management (invasive and non-invasive) Arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation Airway management and oxygen therapy Nebulizer and inhaled medication administration Code blue and rapid response participation Pulmonary function testing and bedside spirometry Respiratory care protocols and weaning strategies Electronic health record (EHR) documentation Leadership, team coordination, and precepting Quality improvement and clinical data monitoring
