A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Description

SUMMARY:

Responsible and accountable for the set-up and operation of various types of Respiratory Therapy equipment to be utilized in patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease and/or illness.

BAXTER HEALTH COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Understands and adheres to Baxter Health standards and polices. Required to work with the Clinic Manager regularly to carry out, initiate and/or implement best practices for the Baxter Health Pulmonology Clinic.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:

High School Diploma or GED, Graduate of an AMA-approved Respiratory Therapy program.

Experience:

Pulmonary Function Testing experience of at minimum 1 year.

License/Certification:

Current Arkansas Respiratory License in good standing. Certified by the NBRC or eligible by being a graduate of an AMA-approved Respiratory Therapy program. BLS required.

Preferred Education:

Associates Degree, ACLS certification, ACCS certification,

Must have the ability to move about freely and stand and walk for extended periods of time, respond quickly to emergencies, occasionally bend, squat, and twist, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and push and/or pull rolling equipment up to 400 pounds using proper body mechanics. Will spend eight hours or more in front of a computer, monitor or similar screen utilizing a keyboard and/or mouse. Must have a keen sense of hearing and visual acuity. Must be able to handle critical and highly stressful situations with efficiency and composure. Work Environment Clinic Setting Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a position in a clinical setting where office staff work 5 days a week, Monday - Thursday 8am-5pm and Friday 8am-12pm. Work during inclement weather may be required.
