A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Summary:
Provides direct patient pulmonary care in the chronic hospital and to other patients of the Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital in accordance with JCAHO, State, Hospital and Departmental Standards. Administers all respiratory care procedures and tests as prescribed in accordance with established policy and procedure. Maintains and monitors documentation of Respiratory Care interventions such as Care Plans, Medication Kardex, and Patient Daily Data Record. Troubleshoots basic equipment problems. Tags and logs all broken equipment indicating the nature of the problem. Demonstrates understanding, compassion, and skill competence while meeting the psychosocial and psychophysical needs of patients and residents. Documents, maintains and files all medical notes, flow-sheets and related documentation appropriately ensuring patient confidentiality is maintained (include updating kardexs and charge reports)

    • Certified Respiratory Therapist
    • Respiratory Care Practitioner License - Current Maryland license or eligibility to obtain Maryland license
    • Registered Respiratory Therapist
    Basic Life Support Preferred:
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
    Pediatric Advanced Life Support Credential Note:
    ACLS required within one year of hire; PALS required within one year of hire
    Pay Range:
    $31.94 to $54.87
