A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Summary
Provides respiratory care using critical thinking skills learned and refined through education and experience as a Respiratory Therapist. A Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) demonstrates these skills by successfullypleting examinations administered by the Nation Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and earning the credential "RRT." A Registered Respiratory Therapist is able to assess, evaluate results, and implementplex methods of providing care. Participates in the delivery of care and functions as a specialty clinical resource for other caregivers. Provides a caring relationship that facilitates health and healing. Performs other job duties as assigned.

Experience
Minimum Required
Recent clinical respiratory care experience (hospital, home care, skilled nursing facility) and/or previous respiratory care practice.

1 year hospital experience.
