• Travel Chapel Hill , NC Contract Sep 29, 2026 Quality Staffing Specialists is currently seeking skilled Respiratory Therapists (RRT/CRT) to work within the hospital in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Position Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist (RRT/CRT) demonstrates an advanced level of knowledge and clinical expertise in respiratory care and assigned patient care areas. The Respiratory Therapist provides competent, evidence-based care to patients through airway management, mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, respiratory procedures, and specialized treatments designed to assess, prevent, stabilize, and treat respiratory dysfunction. The Respiratory Therapist works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to deliver high-quality respiratory care to patients throughout the health system, with a focus on PICU and NICU populations . The role requires strong clinical judgment, technical proficiency, and the ability to respond effectively to the needs of critically ill pediatric and neonatal patients. The Respiratory Therapist II administers competent care of patients through airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, respiratory care procedures, and treatments designed to assess, prevent, stabilize, or remedy patients' respiratory dysfunction. Administers standard Respiratory Care including but not limited to aerosol medication delivery, basic bedside pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, oxygen therapy (not included in Per Diem Job), and arterial punctures. Provides for all aspects of airway management including aspiration of established airways, tracheostomy care, tracheostomy tube changes, endotracheal intubations. May perform Pulmonary Function Testing as needed. May perform respiratory care and advanced practice procedures. These procedures include
UAC, UVC, IV
insertion, Chest Tube insertion, Needle Decompression, ABGs, Blood Glucose monitoring, and others as deemed necessary by the medical control officer. May perform all aspects of ventilator care including but not limited to setting up the ventilator and verifying function using specialized ventilator modes to manage the patient's disease process. Provide appropriate monitoring of these patients and provide appropriate weaning techniques. Maintain and improve job knowledge and skills. Functions independently with minimal supervision. Serves as a resource to other staff reflective of experience level.
Required Skills/Experience:
Must have 2 years of recent experience in
PICU/NICU
Must have experience in the following: NICU (Level III or IV) with NRP Certification OR PICU (Level I) with PALS Certification Proficiency with HFOV (High-Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation) and Nitric Oxide Therapy Willing to train on HFJV (High-Frequency Jet Ventilation) and standard ventilators (Drager/Servo)

Rate:
$2,196/weekly (travel rate, you must reside >60 miles from the facility) $1,980/weekly (local rate, if you reside 50 miles from permanent residence to facility)
