A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Description
PERDIEM POSITION SUMMARY
Management of respiratory patients of all ages. Ventilator care, arterial blood gas punctures, intubation, medication treatments, routine cleaning, and stocking equipment.REQUIREMENTS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
NYS Licensed Respiratory Therapist. A registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care is preferred. A.A.S. degree in Respiratory Therapy required, Bachelor of Science Degree preferred. 1 (One) to 2 (Three) years prior respiratory care experience as a Respiratory Therapist, 5 (Five) years preferred. Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association is required. Current PALS provider certification from the American Heart Association is required within one year of hire. Current NRP provider certification from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association is required within 1 (one) year of hire. Ability to work unsupervised. As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs.Special Notes :

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBSH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Your total compensation goes beyond the number in your paycheck! Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements: Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital's Employee Health Services- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references. Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen
- Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings. Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
