A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

RESPIRATORY THERAPY
Pay Range:

$36.03

•$45.85 Care for our community, and your career. Performs basic/advanced therapeutic procedures. Accurately monitors/evaluates pertinent information from patient's charts, and computes/prepares medications using basic principles of metric system. Coordinates patient care needs with physicians/nursing staff. Transcribes/implements physician orders. Uses basic/advanced assessment skills/patient information to maintain awareness and coordinate patient care needs. Troubleshoots and takes steps to correct clinical problems; refers unusual circumstances to supervision.

Job Requirements Minimum Education Requirement:

Graduate of a school for Respiratory Care.

Minimum Experience Requirement:

Prior experience preferred, but not required. Knowledge of acid/base/electrolyte relationships and implications of life threatening situations preferred, not required. Establishes patient ventilator settings using metric measurements/advanced principles of volume, flow, pressure, time relationships preferred, not required.

Minimum License Requirement:

BLS certification required. ACLS, NRP and PALS preferred. Appropriate NYS licensure. CRT
