A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders. Assume primary responsibility for all respiratory care modalities, including the supervision of respiratory therapy students and new graduates. Initiate and conduct therapeutic procedures; maintain patient records; and select, assemble, check, and operate equipment.JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education Graduate of Registry Level Respiratory Care Program Registered Respiratory Therapist Credential NBRC Minimum Work Experience No previous experience Required Licenses/Certifications State of Texas licensure in Respiratory Care Annual renewal of National Board for Respiratory Care active status for therapists subject to the Continuing Competency Program (CCP) Graduate Therapists must obtain CRT credentials and then test for RRT credential and NBRC Credential active status within 1 year of graduation. If RRT Credential is not obtained, will be placed into Respiratory Care Practitioner job position until RRT credential is obtained. BLS- should not initiate patient contact until completed ACLS
