We are seeking a Respiratory Therapy Extern to support respiratory therapists in delivering high-quality patient care. Responsibilities include assisting with patient assessments, equipment setup and maintenance, and monitoring patients under supervision. The ideal candidate is enrolled in an accredited respiratory therapy program, demonstrates strong communication skills, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Assist licensed Respiratory Therapists in delivering respiratory care treatments and therapies under supervision Set up, check, and operate respiratory therapy equipment such as oxygen delivery systems, nebulizers, and non-invasive ventilation devices as permitted by extern scope Support routine ventilator checks and basic monitoring tasks under direct supervision Obtain and document vital signs and basic respiratory assessments within training level and hospital policy Accurately document care, observations, and patient responses in the electronic medical record Follow infection prevention, safety, and equipment cleaning protocols at all times Respond promptly to changes in patient status by notifying supervising Respiratory Therapist or nurse Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and allied health staff to support patient care plans Assist with transporting and positioning patients for respiratory-related procedures and diagnostics Participate in unit-based education, skills training, and competency development activities Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all regulatory, hospital, and departmental policies Demonstrate professional behavior, reliability, and strong communication with patients, families, and staff Required Skills Basic knowledge of respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology Operation and basic troubleshooting of respiratory therapy equipment (oxygen delivery systems, nebulizers, ventilators under supervision) Measurement and documentation of vital signs and basic respiratory parameters Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation skills Infection prevention and standard precautions Basic patient assessment and observation skills Time management and task prioritization in a clinical environment Clear verbal and written communication with patients and healthcare team Basic life support and CPR techniques Safe patient handling and positioning Attention to detail and adherence to protocols and supervision Professionalism, teamwork, and adaptability in acute-care settings
