A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Description

Where You'll Work St. Luke's Health - Patients Medical Center provides inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical services to residents of Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte, Baytown, and Clear Lake. The facility includes 53 medical/surgical beds, eight ICU beds and three endoscopy rooms, and offers a range of primary and specialized services—wound care, general surgery, gastroenterology, occupational health, heart and vascular, women's services, diagnostic imaging, outpatient rehab services, and sleep disorders. Job Summary and Responsibilities Essential Function Administering therapy modalities which include, but are not limited to, Hand held Nebulizer (HHN), HHN viametered dose inhaler (HHN/MDI), Intrapulmonary Percussive Ventilation (IPV), Chest Physical Therapy (CPT),Pentamidine therapy. Medication administration may be included during these therapy modalities Administering medical gas therapy including oxygen and Helium-Oxygen Therapy (HeO2). Performing ventilation therapies, including maintenance and management of life support systems. Thesetherapies are comprised of non-invasive and invasive ventilation therapies, as well as transport of ventilatorpatients to diagnostic procedures Performs physiological monitoring and diagnostic testing including, ABG puncture, bronchoscopy assistance,pulmonary function testing, bedside PFT's, metabolic monitoring, apnea monitoring, transcutaneous monitoring,capnography, and pulse oximetry and sleep apnea assessment. Performs specialized procedures which including but are not limited to, CPR, bronchial lavage, transport,cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, artificial and tracheostomy airway care, and body mechanics/ambulation.
