Job Description
OhioHealth is seeking a compassionate Speech Pathologist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will assess, diagnose, and treat patients with speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders across diverse care settings. You'll collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to develop individualized treatment plans, provide caregiver education, and document progress. Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive evaluation of speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing disorders using standardized and functional assessments Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized, evidence-based treatment plans aligned with patient goals and medical needs Provide direct treatment and therapeutic interventions to pediatric, adult, and/or geriatric patients, depending on assignment Perform and interpret instrumental swallowing assessments (e.g., VFSS/MBS, FEES) where credentialed and appropriate Educate patients, families, and caregivers on diagnosis, treatment strategies, compensatory techniques, and home exercise programs Collaborate with physicians, nursing, rehabilitation team members, and case management in interdisciplinary care planning and discharge planning Document evaluations, treatment sessions, progress notes, and care plans accurately and timely in the electronic medical record in accordance with regulatory and Ohio Health standards Participate in quality improvement, outcomes tracking, and evidence-based practice initiatives within the department Adhere to infection prevention, safety policies, and ethical practice standards in all patient care activities Provide supervision and mentorship to students, clinical fellows, or support personnel as appropriate and permitted by state and ASHA guidelines Engage in continuing education and professional development to maintain licensure and clinical competence Required Skills Clinical assessment of speech, language, and cognitive-communication disorders Swallowing and dysphagia assessment and treatment Voice and resonance therapy techniques Aphasia, motor speech, and cognitive-communication rehabilitation Pediatric and/or adult speech-language pathology intervention (setting dependent) Use and interpretation of standardized assessment tools Instrumental swallowing assessment (VFSS/MBS, FEES) where applicable Care planning and interdisciplinary teamwork Patient and family education and counseling Documentation and electronic medical record (EMR) proficiency Knowledge of ASHA, state practice acts, and reimbursement regulations Time management and caseload prioritization Cultural competence and trauma-informed communication Basic Life Support (BLS) and patient safety practices
