A Speech Language Pathologist diagnoses and treats speech, language, and swallowing disorders in patients with a variety of conditions. Helps patients improve their ability to make sounds or use language, or develop non-spoken means of communication. May specialize in working with patients of a certain age group, or treat speech problems resulting from a condition such as a stroke or cleft palate. Works in schools, hospitals and other healthcare facilities and works closely with physicians, psychologists, social workers, and other therapists.

Position:

Itinerant Speech & Language Pathologist Sample Duties:

Deliver Speech and Language Therapy:

Conduct individual and small-group therapy sessions targeting articulation, language development, pragmatics (social skills), and fluency, specifically tailored to the social and academic needs of middle school students.

Support Assistive Technology & AAC:

Collaborate with the special education team to implement, monitor, and train students and staff on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems and other assistive technologies.

Conduct Evaluative Assessments:

Administer comprehensive speech and language evaluations, analyze diagnostic data, and contribute to multidisciplinary evaluation reports (IEPs/504 plans).

Ensure Continuity of Therapeutic Care:

Partner with the building's speech department to maintain an aligned approach to student scheduling, data collection, and progress tracking across the middle school population.

Maintain Compliance & Communication:

Maintain accurate, timely documentation for progress reports, IEP compliance, and Medicaid billing, while fostering strong, unified communication with families and school staff alongside the full-time SLP. Salary per
