PURPOSE :
Effective teaching has always been a complex process; as our curriculum adapts to meet the skills our students will need to be successful in the future, there are significant implications for teachers. Student centered methods like problem-based learning and project-based learning allow students to collaborate, work on authentic problems, and engage with the community. Teaching our students to think, work together better and use information more rigorously will be vital. These methods will require teachers to be knowledgeable about a broad range of topics and make in-the-moment decisions about lesson design. Embedded professional development and collaboration for teachers will be essential in shifting from whole class instruction to student-centered methods. Providing support for our teachers and students will be key as we look to sustain our highly effective teaching staff and sustain high student achievement. The SLP will collaborate with grade level and special education staff to meet the needs of students. The Speech Language Pathologist will report to the Director of Student Services and Principal.
Overall Goals:
Ensure that speech instruction is matched to student's individual needs based on IEP goals Instill a love of learning in all students and ensure equitable access to information Collaborate with teams Write and implement appropriate, legally sound IEPs and abide by special education timelines Communicated effectively with families The specific responsibilities of the Speech Language Pathologist are outlined below under areas of responsibility: a.
Instructional Design:
Students acquire, evaluate, and use information effectively through instructional strategies designed to meet learner needs b.
Instructional Design:
Specific skills and experience in instruction and assessment/evaluation of speech language deficits; including knowledge of instruments, interpretation of results and ability to transfer results into an individualized educational plan that meets the needs of the learner c.
Collaborative Planning:
SLP works well, communicates goals and effectively plans instruction with team members that deliver direct instruction to students on the SLP's caseload. d. Assessment for
Learning:
Student learning is assessed in collaboration with classroom teachers, utilizing data e. Teaching for
Diverse Learning Needs:
Learning outcomes are defined based on unique needs of students f.
Resources and Materials:
Student needs for learning resources are met through well developed collections of materials in a variety of formats g.
Equitable Access:
Students have flexible and equitable access to resources that support their academic and personal learning and meet diverse learning needs h.
Program Planning and Evaluation:
SLP will work collaboratively with staff and administration to ensure delivery model is optimal in meeting needs of students
Required:
Licensure, Speech Language, (Prek-grade 8).
