Job Description

Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Encompass Health, is seeking a Speech Pathologist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will assess, diagnose, and treat patients with communication and swallowing disorders, developing individualized treatment plans that support optimal rehabilitation outcomes. You will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team, educate patients and families, and document progress in accordance with regulatory and hospital standards. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive evaluations of speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing function for adult rehab patients Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans to address communication and swallowing goals Provide direct therapy services, including one-on-one and group sessions, using appropriate tools and modalities Conduct dysphagia assessments and recommend safe diet textures and compensatory strategies Document evaluations, daily treatment notes, and progress reports accurately in the electronic medical record Collaborate with an interdisciplinary rehab team on care planning and discharge recommendations Educate patients, families, and caregivers on communication strategies, home exercise programs, and safe swallowing techniques Participate in team conferences, quality improvement initiatives, and outcome measurement activities Maintain compliance with hospital policies, professional standards, state licensure, and regulatory requirements Engage in ongoing professional development and support training or mentorship for students or new staff Required Skills Speech, language, and cognitive-communication assessment Adult dysphagia evaluation and management Development of individualized treatment plans Delivery of evidence-based speech-language therapy Neurogenic communication disorder management (e.g., stroke, TBI) Use of standardized assessment tools and outcome measures Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation Interdisciplinary care coordination Patient and family education Rehabilitation goal-setting and progress tracking Knowledge of rehab and acute care safety protocols Time management and case load prioritization
