Overview We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated professional to evaluate and treat patients with speech, language, cognitive, communication, and swallowing disorders. Working alongside physicians, nursing staff, and other therapy professionals, the SLP will develop individualized treatment plans, provide patient and family education, and help patients achieve their highest level of independence and quality of life

Experience:

• Must hold a master of communicative disorders / speech language pathology from an ASHA accredited college or university.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must hold a bachelor or Master of Communicative Disorders / Speech Language Pathology from an ASHA accredited college or university. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is preferred. Must hold a valid license to practice occupational therapy in the state of Louisiana. Must have sensory skills to differentiate clinical signs and symptoms and the emotional stamina to deal with a variety of stressful situations including emergency response to patient incident. Continuing CEU's as required per individual licensure Duties Conduct thorough speech and language evaluations for pediatric and adult patients, including early intervention assessments for young children. Develop and implement individualized speech-language therapy plans tailored to each patient's needs, including those with disabilities or speech impairments. Provide direct therapy services using evidence-based techniques in person or via telehealth platforms, ensuring accessibility for all patients. Collaborate closely with parents, caregivers, teachers, and other healthcare professionals to support comprehensive care strategies. Monitor patient progress regularly, adjusting therapy approaches to maximize effectiveness and meet specific goals. Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries within Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems. Stay current with medical terminology, physiology knowledge, anatomy insights, and best practices in speech-language pathology to deliver high-quality care.

Responsibilities:

Maintains a safe and effective environment. Verifies physician's orders for treatment prior to performing evaluation as well as conducts full chart review. Verifies critical / abnormal lab values with nursing staff prior to patient treatment. Establishes, initiates and updates an appropriate plan of care (POC) in collaboration with the patient and / or family in accordance with physician orders. Establishes specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely long and short term goals relative to the patient's age and lifestyle. Performs evaluations and treatments of cognitive / linguistic deficits, motor speech disorders and dysphagia. Communicates diet changes, need for MBSS and swallow precautions with the medical director directly or via the Director of Therapy. Conducts bedside swallow exams. Responsible for scheduling MBSS with physician order. Recommends and implements appropriate diet consistency change by writing an order with approval of medical director. Recommends design, fabrication, application or training in the use of assistive technology. Works with the patient and / or family as well as the interdisciplinary team to establish an appropriate discharge plan. Initiates patient / family education when appropriate in a timely manner in accordance with physician orders. Updates POC every 5-7th day of admission in accordance with IRF-PAI standards. Documents patient care encounters and charges in a legible, timely and efficient manner. Performs chart corrections within 72 hours. Works cooperatively with supervisors, physicians, therapy and nursing staff to contribute to the overall productivity of the team. Recognizes appropriate situations to utilize support from certified nursing assistants, and therapy aid to ensure patient and employee safety. Maintains a safe environment for patient care and maintains proper safety measures with treatment when able (i.e. gait belt, chair / bed alarm) Consistently meets patient care productivity standards as established for job classification. Collaborates effectively with other members of the health care team. Provides input at weekly interdisciplinary team meetings (staffing). Provides in-service education after attending clinical continuing education seminars as assigned by the Director of Therapy. Performs modalities (i.e. ice, moist heat) when appropriate. Exhibits adaptability in assignments as it relates to caseload, scheduling and staffing. Takes initiative to assist in other patient care areas and accepts responsibility for all patient care needs. Adheres to the professional standards of practice guidelines and code of ethics as set forth by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
