A Speech Language Pathologist diagnoses and treats speech, language, and swallowing disorders in patients with a variety of conditions. Helps patients improve their ability to make sounds or use language, or develop non-spoken means of communication. May specialize in working with patients of a certain age group, or treat speech problems resulting from a condition such as a stroke or cleft palate. Works in schools, hospitals and other healthcare facilities and works closely with physicians, psychologists, social workers, and other therapists.

Overview
Job Summary Evaluates and assesses patients to establish functional, measurable goals to promote restoration of functional abilities. Provides treatment according to a written plan of care to meet established goals. Plans for discharge andmunicates findings and progress according to professional licensure/certification, scope of practice and departmental/discipline policies and procedures. Produces other reports as needed. May supervise clinical students and support staff including certified/licensed assistants, technicians, and volunteers. Ads to the ASHA Code of Ethics. Provides a caring relationship that facilitates health, and healing. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Responsibilities
- Evaluates and assesses the patient based on subjective and objective information.
- Communicates results of the evaluation to patient and other caregivers.
- Provides treatment according to established goals on plan of care.
- Documents interventions/care in the patient's medical record.
- Evaluates effectiveness of plan of care and reassesses patient's functional status as needed.
- Provides discharge planning information which includes patient/family education, follow-up, and referral tomunity resources.
- Contributes to the development of staff and students.
- Participates in activities designed to improve health care delivery.
- Completes assigned goals.

Basicputer literacy skills such as keyboarding, using a mouse, and navigating sites.
