Job Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
including the following. Other duties may be assigned. Understand and comply with the requirements of the Hospital's Compliance Program, including, but not limited to the Code of Conduct, The Compliance Policy, all organization-wide policies for compliance and compliance plans affecting specific duties and responsibilities. Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by Hospital policy and as requested by supervisor. Provide Speech Therapy services to acute patients, out-patients, and swing bed patients, of the hospital, school settings, as well as the residents of St. Joseph's Villa as needed. Complete patient assessment and document data in the patient chart and reports results/recommendations to the appropriate physician. Responsible for screening, identifying, assessing, interpreting, developing and implementing a treatment plan for patients with disorders of speech, language, voice, oral/pharyngeal dysfunction/dysphagia or related disorders and cognitive/communication disorders. Responsible for prevention of speech/language deficits, assessing and treating need for augmentative and alternative communication systems, making appropriate referrals as warranted. Provide aural rehabilitation and related communication counseling services to hearing impaired individuals as well as enhancing speech-language proficiency. Retrieves messages and responds to calls from patients, hospitals, nursing homes, in-house staff and physicians. Communicates with patients, families and other professionals in a courteous manner. Assists other providers within the facility. Communicate with medical staff, families and/or supportive agencies. Adhering to all hospital and department policies, procedures and standards. Maintain current license and BLS certification. Maintain Confidentiality and assist others to keep confidentiality. Appropriate barrier protection will always be used when exposure to blood and/or body fluids is anticipated. Implementing safe work practices 100% of time to reduce the risk of occupational exposure during all procedures or tasks that involve contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials.
