Mercy is seeking an Acute Hospital Speech Therapist to provide high-quality speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing services to adult and geriatric patients in an acute care setting. In this role, you will perform comprehensive assessments, develop evidence-based treatment plans, and deliver individualized therapy to support safe swallowing, communication, and functional independence. You will collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and rehabilitation teams, document care in the EHR, educate patients and families, and contribute to quality and safety initiatives in a compassionate, patient-centered environment. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing evaluations for acute care patients Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans to improve communication and swallowing safety Document assessments, goals, progress notes, and discharge summaries in the EHR accurately and timely Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and rehabilitation professionals to coordinate patient-centered care plans Educate patients, caregivers, and families on therapy techniques, communication strategies, and safe swallowing practices Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and contribute to discharge planning and transition of care Adhere to hospital, regulatory, and professional practice standards and maintain patient confidentiality Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and stay current with best practices in acute care speech therapy Required Skills Speech-language pathology Acute care evaluation Swallowing (dysphagia) assessment Treatment planning Cognitive-communication rehab Electronic health records (EHR) documentation Interdisciplinary care coordination Patient and family education Regulatory/compliance documentation Outcome measurement and reporting
