JOB GOAL
To provide speech and language services to students with disabilities to minimize the adverse impact of speech and language delays on student progress.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Requires regular, reliable, and punctual in-person attendance at the assigned work location. Assesses students' communication skills (e.g., articulation, language, voice, etc.) for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining eligibility, and providing recommendations for placement Coordinates IEP meetings for eligible students with parents, teachers, and students for the purpose of presenting evaluation results and developing plans Maintains all special education paperwork in a timely manner including instructionally appropriate Individual Educational Programs (IAIEPs), reevaluation summary, student progress reports, student census and annual yearly progress data Consults with parents, administrators, school psychologist and other professionals in order to develop IAIEPs Instructs and develops daily lesson plans as prescribed in the IAIEPs from PLEPs and goals Collaborates with a variety of groups and/or individuals for the purpose of communicating information, resolving issues, and providing services in compliance with established guidelines Instructs eligible students in the use of appropriate communication technologies (i.e., hearing aids, FM systems, augmentative communication devices, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing the adverse educational impact of communication disorders in accordance with established guidelines and legal requirement Maintains files and/or records (e.g. progress reports, activity logs, treatment plans, required documentation, screening results, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of information as required for reference and/or compliance Researches resources and methods (e.g. intervention and techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students' needs Performs other related duties assigned by the Principal and/or Supervisor of Special Populations
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 50 lbs., or the weight of an average child, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
