Job Summary:

We are seeking experienced Medical Supply Technicians/Sterile Processing Technicians to support Sterile Processing Services (SPS) at the VA Central California Health Care System. The technician will be responsible for the decontamination, inspection, preparation, packaging, sterilization, tracking, and distribution of reusable medical equipment (RME) in compliance with VA, AAMI, AORN, FDA, OSHA, and manufacturer instructions.

Responsibilities:

Perform decontamination and cleaning of reusable medical instruments and equipment. Inspect instruments for damage, staining, rust, wear, and proper functionality. Assemble, prepare, package, label, and document surgical instruments and specialty trays. Operate sterilization equipment, including autoclaves, V-PRO units, automated washers, and ultrasonic cleaners. Monitor, document, and verify sterilization cycles and indicators. Maintain accurate records related to decontamination, sterilization, equipment testing, and distribution. Assist with case cart preparation, inventory management, and transportation of clean and soiled RME. Follow all applicable safety, infection control, and regulatory standards.

Requirements:

Minimum 2 years of Sterile Processing/SPS experience . Current active HSPA/IAHCSMM or CBSPD certification . Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English. Current BLS certification . Execute endoscope reprocessing procedures in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and healthcare regulations. Maintain accurate documentation of sterilization cycles, decontamination processes, and equipment maintenance records. Apply aseptic techniques during handling and packaging to prevent contamination. Collaborate with surgical teams to ensure timely delivery of sterile instruments for upcoming procedures. Support infection prevention initiatives by adhering to strict sterilization standards and infection control policies. Assist in the training of new staff members on sterilization techniques and safety procedures. Conduct routine inspections of sterilization equipment to ensure optimal operation and compliance with safety standards. Requirements Proven experience in sterile processing or medical instrument sterilization within a healthcare environment. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and surgical procedures relevant to instrument handling. Familiarity with infection prevention management and healthcare infection control practices. Proficiency in medical terminology and understanding of medical equipment operation. Strong skills in inventory management and documentation accuracy. Ability to perform endoscope reprocessing according to industry standards. Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and adherence to aseptic techniques. Certification in sterile processing or related fields is preferred but not mandatory; relevant training will be provided for qualified candidates.
