Job Description
Prepares, installs, assembles, cleans, and sterilizes all the health care and laboratory equipment used in medical exams, surgeries, and other clinical procedures. Ensure strict adherence to sterilization processes and assure that instruments, equipment, and supplies are safe for reuse across patients daily.
Essential Functions:
Decontamination, packaging, sterilization, and distribution of medical and surgical supplies. Adheres to department dress according to the Sterile Processing procedure manual. Operates all sterile equipment according to posted procedures. Knows all parameters of team and E.T.O. sterilization-aeration, chemical indicators, and biological indicators. Participates in department in service programs as evidenced in department in-service records. Follows body substance isolation in accordance with infection control manual. Performs work of equal skill, effort and responsibility as directed. Assists the Sterile Processing Department Manager in scheduling personnel and equipment according to the requirements of the various departments, patients and physicians. Assists the Sterile Processing Department Manager in ensuring that employee performance and quality standards are met. Conducts quality assurance audits and verifies accuracy and completeness of materials prepared. Test processing procedures. Actively participates in systems to communicate department issues with the Sterile Processing Department Manager and other staff on a daily basis. Is able to see to all departmental, operational and staffing issues during the absence of the Sterile Processing Department Manager, over a short period of time. In the absence of the Sterile Processing Department Manager can provide coaching, counseling, motivation, and rewarding of the staff as required for the uninterrupted continuation of services by the Sterile Processing Department.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
HS Diploma.
Experience:
At least 2-3 years of sterile processing experience is required.
Certification/Licensure:
Certified Sterile Processing technician required
